Step 1: Sign up for a free account at odesk.com.

Step 2: At the oDesk’s sign up page you will be presented with 3 options. Select option 2, “Freelance Provider”

Step 3: Here you’ll be required to fill in all the required fields to create your free oDesk account.

Step 4: Your account is created but inactive. You have to complete the following tasks to activate your account:

* Verify your email address
* Fill out your contact information
* Personalize your oDesk Profile
* Accept the oDesk Marketplace User Agreement

Step 5: Check your email box. You’ll find a mail from oDesk.com. Click on the link in the mail to verify your email address.

Step 6: On the page “My Provider Profile.” you can add your portrait, create/upload your resume, and update your contact info(Here you will fill in your home address, phone number, time zone, and messenger user id.) if need be. After updating your oDesk profile, carefully read and accept oDesk’s “Marketplace User Agreement.”

Step 7: Click on Payment Link, and the Payment Methods and Add your payment information.

Step 8: Download the oDesk software at this link: http://www.odesk.com/community/resources/downloads
This software allows oDesk track the time you spend on contacted work.

Step 9: Go to odesk.comand browse through available jobs under the “Find Work” link. When you see an interesting job in your area of specialization, apply for it.

Step 10: This is where you play the waiting game. After you apply for  jobs, you have to wait for someone to contact you. You may be contacted by phone, email or chat, so have those three means of communication setup. Remember, be very honest about your abilities. if you are caught in a lie, you may ruin your chances of making honest income on oDesk.com.
